Grace Coddington Was The Mastermind Behind Kim And Kanye’s ‘Vogue’ Cover
The Kim and Kanye ‘Vogue’ cover caused quite a stir when it was first announced. You were either all for it or against it, in which case you blamed Anna Wintour for bringing about the demise of the fashion bible. But it turns out that Anna Wintour wasn’t responsible for the cover– yes, you owe her an apology tweet. In an interview with the Financial Times, Vogue’s creative director, Graces Coddington, revealed that it wasn’t Anna’s idea to put the #worldsmostfamouscouple on the cover.
Grace– who rarely shoot Vogue covers and normally only works with models because as she puts it “the clothes look better [on models], because they are made for them”– not only styled the couple but was the driving force behind them landing the cover.
“There was a wedding story to be done and Anna probably had them in mind, because she had been seeing a lot of Kanye, so she said, ‘Maybe we should shoot it on lookalikes.’ And I thought, ‘Why not just do it on the real thing? This is Vogue.’ And I do think Kim Kardashian represents this moment in our culture. I’m fascinated by her, in the same way I’m fascinated by the people I see on the street or the subway.”
