About Saturday Night Live
This late-night sketch comedy and variety series created by Lorne Michaels has been a staple of NBC since 1975. A rotating cast of comedic actors–several of which have gone on to star in scripted television shows and feature films–are often in skits poking fun at pop culture and politics with satire. Each episode begins with a “cold open” sketch to kick off the show, followed by an opening monologue recited by a celebrity guest. Additionally, musical celebrities appear on the show to perform new or hit singles. The show’s live sketches are often interspersed with “digital shorts,” which are pre-recorded. The series is one of the longest-running on American television.
